The name of the band is an untranslatable wordplay - a blacksmith shaped metal and due to the fact, they are a band, they shaping with sounds (echos) - so they called themselves Echosmith.

Probably the name is also inspired by one of their favourite bands names: Echo & the Bunnymen and The Smiths. It also sounds quite similiar to popular band Aerosmith.

Sydney one times mentionned, that many people often don't get the wordplay behind it, but doesn't care.
